According to the media in Turkey, there is an urgent need to ban the sale of real estate to foreigners. At the same time, they cite the example of Canada, which introduced such a ban for two years. Such a measure is justified by the fact that foreign buyers contribute to the increase in prices for the purchase and rent of housing.
The Consumers Association agrees with this measure, believing that the ban on property sales will be able to lower the prices for sale and rent of housing to an acceptable level. Since recently the prices for buying and renting housing in Turkey have risen unreasonably.
However, the owners of construction companies, as well as companies that sell property, do not agree with this measure. They assure that the ban on the sale of housing to foreigners will deprive the country of at least tens of billions of dollars annually.
According to statistics for 2025, the property purchased by foreigners is about fifteen per cent of all sold housing. Mostly foreigners buy housing in Antalya and elite areas of Istanbul, which entails a change in the demographic structure of resort towns and elite areas as foreigners begin to dominate.
